Showcases & Display - Historic Sheerness Dockyard Model

Sheerness Dockyard Church, Isle of Sheppey

At a scale of 1:60 the model represents the historic naval dockyard  - John Rennie built the model for the construction of a new state of the art dockyard and by 1800 it included 30 buildings, 2 dry docks and 2 slips covering an amazing 1600 square feet in total.

After condition reporting, assessing conservation requirements and accurate measuring we discussed with the Trust a way of exhibiting, what would be a very small portion of the model and with a vision to create a rotational display of other buildings going forward.

The church has taken on a secular role as a cultural centre so is used on a day to day basis by the community. The models needed not only to be beautifully and safely displayed inside their showcases but also be repositioned easily into other areas of the space when events take place.

Photographic interpretation alongside short text describes each of the three model cases that currently display 2 individual buildings and one group of 3, that includes the church itself.
