Nottingham Castle has just reopend after a multi-million pound revamp. The site is large with spralling grounds and a plathora of galleries and activity spaces both inside and out. Wayfinding has a signigicant amount of work to do to direct and aid its visitors as well as blending into the background maintaining visitor focus but without disrupting the beauty of the castle and it's real estate. In collaboration with M+M Design Production Wood and Wood Signs.

It is important in an area as vast as Kew Gardens to have very obvious beacons of direction and information and yet ensure that the integrity of the garden and its nature are not compromised. The design and structure was lead by sustainability, clear and concise weatherproof messaging and the overall desire for the beacons to nestle naturally within the landscape for the benefit of both the gardens and its visitors. Ethically resourced English Oak endures the elements and ages beautifully.

Each totem has been put together honestly with visible fixings and a loyalty to its fabric. Built with handmade craftsmanship they are set to stand the test of time.

14,000 trees live in the landscape at Kew (a UNESCO World Heritage site) Each group of trees has been planted carefully and considerately in ‘family groups’. The new obelisks were commissioned to interpret the story of each family group, the capacity to present new or updated information and provide a source of way-finding for the visitor.

The design relied upon sustainability and sitting comfortably in the landscape. The design uses sustainably resourced English Oak living up to the challenge of withstanding the micro-climatical weather within the grounds and its potential to age naturally and remain looking beautiful.
